Neo signs in to RingCentral as one user of your account, through an app you create for Neo. You need a RingCentral admin who can sign in to the RingCentral Developer Console.

1. Choose the user Neo acts as

Neo can do what this user’s role allows. Use an admin with the Super Admin role, so Neo can read and change every user, queue and number. RingCentral recommends a dedicated service user, so the connection keeps working when a person leaves.

2. Create the app

1

Create a REST API app

In the Developer Console, open Apps, click Register App, and choose REST API App.
2

Choose the JWT auth flow

Under Auth, select JWT auth flow. Make the app private, for your own account only.
3

Add the app permissions

Add the permissions for the areas your agents use (see the table below). Read Accounts is required: Neo checks the connection with it.
4

Copy the client ID and secret

Open the app’s Credentials and copy the Client ID and Client Secret of the production environment.

3. Create the JWT

1

Sign in as the user from step 1

In the Developer Console, click the user’s name at the top right and choose Credentials.
2

Create a JWT

Click Create JWT. Allow it for the app you made in step 2 only, and set no expiry date unless your policy needs one. Copy the JWT: it shows once.

4. Add the credentials in Neo

1

Open Integrations

In the Neo Dashboard, open Integrations and find the RingCentral card, under Phone & VoIP.
2

Save the credentials

Enter the client ID, the client secret and the JWT, and click Save settings. Neo signs in and reads the user’s own extension before it saves, so a wrong secret, a JWT not allowed for this app, or an app without Read Accounts is refused straight away, with RingCentral’s reason.
If the JWT is revoked or expires, or the user is disabled, Neo loses access until you save a new JWT here.

5. Turn RingCentral on per agent

Open the agent, go to its Tools & Settings tab, click Phone & VoIP, and expand the RingCentral block. Pick one of its Presets, or set each area yourself.

Limits

RingCentral limits each app and user per minute: about 50 light reads, 40 medium calls and 10 heavy reads, such as call logs. Neo keeps to 40 calls a minute and waits when RingCentral asks it to. A RingCentral reseller brand that runs its own platform (not platform.ringcentral.com) cannot connect yet.
