Commvault protects a client’s servers, virtual machines, databases and Microsoft 365 from a CommServe, the server that runs every backup job, with the Command Center web console in front of it. Connect it for a client, and Neo agents can work that client’s backup tickets on the CommServe itself.

What Neo can do with Commvault

  • Read job status, failed items and events, and the alerts the CommServe triggered
  • Suspend, resume, kill and resubmit a job, and start a backup of a subclient or a plan
  • Read the protected servers (Commvault calls each one a client), add a server by installing the Commvault software on it, and retire or delete one
  • Turn backup, restore and data aging activity off or on for a server, an agent, a server group or a subclient, such as for a maintenance window
  • Read storage pools with their capacity and free space, and their media agents
  • Browse backed-up data and start a file or virtual machine restore, and run one of your Commvault workflows, which asks a technician first under the Helpdesk and IT Admin presets

One connection per client

A CommServe holds one client’s backups, so you connect Commvault once for each client, under that client’s company in your PSA. On a ticket, the agent calls the CommServe of the ticket’s company. A scheduled agent or a chat names the client in each call. A CommServe that backs up several clients, such as one in your own hosted environment with a Commvault company per client, is connected under the company whose tickets should reach it, usually your own. Every call on it reaches all of its companies. See Commvault API for the permission groups.
