# Connecting SimpleHelp to Neo

> Make a SimpleHelp API token for Neo, choose the technician whose tools Neo runs, and save them in Neo

You connect SimpleHelp once, with your server's address, an API token and, to run tools, the technician whose toolbox Neo uses.

## Before you start

* Neo reaches your SimpleHelp server over the internet, at the address your technicians and customers use, over **HTTPS** with a certificate from a public certificate authority.
* Running tools needs a SimpleHelp release with the Toolbox API (`/tools/...` queries). On an older server, Neo reads everything else; update the server to run tools.

## 1. Make an API token for Neo

**1. Open the API tokens**

In the SimpleHelp Technician Console, open **Administration** > **Web API Configuration** and click **Manage API Tokens**.

**2. Create the token**

Create a token for Neo and give it the permissions your agents need: machine queries for every job, tools to run tools, sessions and history to read who connected, and technician and server queries only if agents should manage them. Neo can do only what the token allows, whatever the agent's access profile says.

**3. Allow Neo's addresses**

If you restrict the token by IP address, add [Neo's addresses](https://docs.neoagent.io/integrations/ip-whitelisting.md). Copy the token.

## 2. Choose the technician whose tools Neo runs

SimpleHelp lists and runs tools as a technician, with that technician's permissions. Neo always uses the one technician you choose here, and never another.

**1. Make a technician for Neo**

In **Administration** > **Technicians**, add a technician such as `neo`, in a group whose permissions let it run tools from the Access tab.

**2. Give it the tools**

Put the tools agents may run in that technician's toolbox, or share a toolbox with it and import the shared toolbox as that technician. Neo sees only the tools that technician sees.

Leave the technician blank to connect without running tools.

## 3. Add the connection in Neo

**1. Open Integrations**

In the Neo Dashboard, open [**Integrations** → **SimpleHelp**](https://dashboard.neoagent.io/integrations?open=simplehelp), under Other.

**2. Save the connection**

Enter the **SimpleHelp URL** (your server's address, with its port when it is not 443, such as `https://help.example.com`), the **API Token**, and the **Technician for Tools** username. Click **Save settings**. Neo reads your machines with the token before it saves, and lists the technician's tools when you enter one, so a wrong value is rejected straight away, with what to fix.

## 4. Turn SimpleHelp on per agent

**1. Open the agent's tools**

Open the agent in the Neo Dashboard, go to its **Tools & Settings** tab and click **Other**.

**2. Pick a preset**

Expand the **SimpleHelp** block and pick one of its **Presets**, or set each permission group by hand.

| Preset | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Read Only** | Reads machines, hardware, monitoring, alerts, sessions, history, tools, technicians and settings; changes nothing |
| **Helpdesk** | Reads the same; running a tool and changing a machine ask a technician |
| **IT Admin** | Runs tools and changes machines on its own; technicians, groups, filters and server settings ask a technician |
| **Full Automation** | Every SimpleHelp change Neo sends, without approval except the changes that always ask |

To let an agent run tools on its own, set **Toolbox Tools** to Read/Write without approval. Only the tools in the chosen technician's toolbox can run.
