# Creating an API key

> Create an Addigy API v2 key with the permission Neo Agent needs

Create the key in your top-level Addigy organization. Neo syncs devices from that organization and its child organizations, and maps them through your client organizations and policies.

Addigy shows a new key once. Have a password manager open before you start.

## Create the key

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Addigy API settings">
    In Addigy, switch to your top-level organization, then go to [**Account** → **Integrations**](https://app.addigy.com/integrations) → **API & Webhooks**. In the **Addigy API** section, click **New API Token**.

    Your Addigy user needs the **View Integrations API Keys** and **Create Integrations API Keys** permissions. Without them, ask an Addigy admin to create the key.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the key">
    Give the key a name you will recognize later, such as `Neo Agent`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the permissions">
    Select the permission in [Permissions to grant](#permissions-to-grant) below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the key">
    Create the key and copy it at once. Addigy does not show it again; if you lose it, delete the key and create a new one.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Permissions to grant

| Permission | What Neo uses it for |
| - | - |
| **View Devices** | Device sync and device lookup. Neo checks for it when you connect. |

The key also needs read access to policies and organizations.

Scripts need two more permissions. **View Predefined Commands** lets Neo sync your script library, so agents can [find scripts](/agents/tools/rmm/find-rmm-scripts), and lets the [RMM API](/agents/tools/rmm/rmm-api) tool's **Scripts & Commands** group read it. Without it, Neo syncs devices and skips the script library. **Execute Commands** lets agents run a script, through [Execute RMM Script](/agents/tools/rmm/run-rmm-script) or the RMM API tool, and lets the RMM API tool's **MDM Device Actions** group send device commands.

Neo also reads the installed software of each Mac, which Addigy's API documentation lists with no extra permission.
