# Connecting OpenWeather to Neo

> Copy your OpenWeather API key and save it in Neo

You connect OpenWeather once at the MSP level, with an API key.

## 1. Get an API key

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in to OpenWeather">
    Sign in at [home.openweathermap.org](https://home.openweathermap.org), or create an account there.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Subscribe to One Call by Call for weather alerts">
    Weather alerts and the weather at a past time come from the One Call API. Open **Billing plans** and subscribe to **One Call by Call**: the first 1,000 calls a day are free. Set the daily call limit there to the most you want to pay for. Without it, agents still read current weather and the 5 day forecast, with no alerts.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the key">
    Open the **API keys** tab and copy a key, or generate one named "Neo". A new key can take a few hours to start working.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## 2. Add the key in Neo

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Integrations">
    Open [**Integrations → OpenWeather**](https://dashboard.neoagent.io/integrations?tab=directory\&open=openweather) in the Neo Dashboard. The card is under Other.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the key">
    Paste the **API Key** and click **Save**. Neo checks the key with OpenWeather before it saves, so a wrong key is rejected straight away. A key made in the last few hours may be rejected too: save again later.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## 3. Turn OpenWeather on per agent

Open the agent from [**Agents**](https://dashboard.neoagent.io/agents), go to the Integrations section, and configure the OpenWeather block. For storm checks and outage causes, **Weather, Forecasts & Alerts** at Read Only is enough.

To act on a storm, the agent also needs your RMM: **Execute RMM Script** with a shutdown script in your RMM's library to shut servers down, and, for maintenance mode, your RMM's own permission group (NinjaOne: Devices at Read / Write). An RMM whose API has no maintenance mode gets the device and the time window in the agent's note, for a technician to set.

Neo needs each client site's address in your PSA to find its weather.

See [OpenWeather API](/agents/tools/management/openweather-api) for what each profile does.
