# DfE Education Statistics API

> Read the Department for Education's published statistics, such as the pupils on roll at each school, in an agent

The common use is a monthly agent that reads the number of pupils on roll at each school client and writes it to the PSA record you bill them from.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Automatically enabled when you configure DfE Education Statistics permissions in your agent workflow.

## What it does

* Finds DfE publications and their data sets, and reads each data set's filters, indicators and versions
* Queries a data set's rows by school, local authority, year or filter
* Reads the number of pupils on roll at a school by its URN, from the school census, with the academic year it covers
* Leaves a school out, and says why, when DfE has no row for its URN or has withheld the number

DfE's statistics are open data, so Neo sends no key. Neo does not download a whole data set file; it queries the rows it needs.

## Permission groups
