# Notion API

> Read and write your Notion workspace — pages, databases, comments and file uploads — from Neo agents

An agent with Notion permissions calls the Notion API during ticket work. Of your pages and databases, it reaches only the ones you shared with the Notion connection; workspace members and Notion AI agents are their own permission groups.

<Info>
  Automatically enabled when you configure Notion permissions in your agent. No manual toggle needed. The agent reaches only the pages you shared with the Notion connection.
</Info>

## What It Does

* Find a page or database by title, and read a page's content as text
* Query a database's rows by its properties, such as every SOP tagged "Printers"
* Create a page or a database row, add text to a page, and edit or trash a page
* Comment on a page, for example when a ticket shows an SOP step is out of date
* Upload a file and attach it to a page

<Tip>
  To find the SOP for a ticket, Neo's own **Find Documentation** tool is the better first stop: Neo syncs your shared Notion pages into its search daily (up to 5,000 a run; a page under 100 characters is left out), and that search reads the page text, while Notion's search matches titles only. Reach for the Notion API tool for the newest version of a page, a database query, or a write.
</Tip>

## Permission Groups

| Permission Group | What It Covers |
| - | - |
| **Pages and Content** | Search, pages and their content, blocks, database rows, meeting notes and file uploads |
| **Databases and Views** | The structure of your databases: their columns and views |
| **Comments** | Comments on pages and blocks |
| **Workspace Members** | The people and bots in your workspace (read-only) |
| **Notion AI Agents** | Notion's own AI agents and their runs. A run spends your Notion AI credits |

Each group has an access level: **Disabled**, **Read Only**, or **Read/Write**. Workspace Members is read-only by design.

## Access Profiles

| Profile | What it allows |
| - | - |
| **Read Only** | Read everything, change nothing |
| **Helpdesk** | Comments run on their own; page changes ask a technician; databases and Notion agents stay read-only |
| **IT Admin** | Pages, databases and comments change on their own; Notion agent runs and changes ask a technician |
| **Full Automation** | Every write runs on its own |

Notion has no permanent page delete: a page an agent trashes can be restored from Notion's trash.

## Setup

Connect Notion first: [Notion](/integrations/documentation/notion). Then, in your agent's **Integrations** tab, pick a profile for Notion.
